How to create an Autorun.inf File
In a past Pc-Specialist, I went over this easily and did not describe it very well. I was requested to create a complete Pc-Specialist on Autorun.inf information, and here it is.An Autorun.inf computer file is a computer file that, when placed on a generate (internal or external), will allow the generate to begin applications, have a different symbol than the conventional tedious one (LOTS OF FUN TO MESS WITH), and have a different name. The format is "option=value". Illustrations will be given later on.
A Primary Autorun File
In this step, we will make a fundamental, do-nothing Autorun pc file. All that will modify is the name of the USB generate, and the symbol that goes with it.
Open Note pad (or Notepad++ or what ever you use) and kind the following:
[autorun]
icon=NAME.ico
label=NAME
BEFORE YOU SAVE IT!
Where it says autorun, place supports around the phrase. I cannot kind this in the Instructable, as it the Instructable developing software would turn the phrase into a weblink. Consult the image for the appropriate structure.
Here is what you typed:
autorun: This declares that this is an Autorun pc file, and what follows explains what the generate will look like and how it will act.
| icon file name "mypic.ico" |
label: This will modify the name of the generate to whatever you select, as long as what you select does not contain too many figures.
OK. Preserve the pc file to the main listing on your generate ("My Computer, Detachable Drive X"). Remove the generate, then connect it returning in. If you stored it to an inner disk generate, you will have to reboot the pc.
If you are including an symbol to the generate, you will need to have an symbol pc file to go use. An symbol pc file is NOT a photo you got off the internet. It must have the expansion ".ico". If it does not, then it will not work. Place the symbol in the same listing as the Autorun pc file. Once you have done this, go returning into the Autorun pc file and modify the line that says icon=NAME.ico to have the name of the symbol (keep the part that has the ".ico".
